Mr. Jankowsld stated that he has seen a lot of additions to the current houses.

Mr. Huff continued that there was a surge in mechanical permits this year - so just as a shot
in the dark, he was leaving the amount the same as last year. With regard to miscellaneous,
there is always a need for more robber stamps. They really help in plan review and speed
up functions. Gasoline may be down a bit because the inspections are down and those we
have will be closer to City Hall. Miscellaneous includes utility knives. He stated when
they see some polyethylene in a spot it shouldn't be, they can cut the poly off the flu and
they do not have to call the contractor to come and do it. If they have to call the contractor
to do this, they (inspectors) would have to go back out and reinspect it again to make sure
that it has been done.

Mr. Schroeder stated, with items such as tape measures, hammers, etc., when you need it,
buy it.

Zoning Adminislrator Frolik stated they needed a better tool for computing half sections.

Mr. Huff continued that the miscellaneous category has been "kicked up" a bit because of
the plan review for the school. We have the option to do it or have the State do it. Long
distance charges are budgeted for when he calls the electrical inspector - it amounts to about
50¢ a call a couple of times a week. There is also a contractor up around the St. Cloud area
that he has to contact once in a while. Mr. Huff stated he "kicked up" the budget request
for seminars because the prices may go up.

Mr. Schroeder commented that Mr. Huff has to go through some class every three years.
He asked if this keeps him (Huff) up to speed.

Mr. Huff replied that it did. He stated the seminar on plumbing codes will be attended
either by him or Steve Lutmer. The money requested for books and pamphlets are dues for
the City to be a member of the ICBO. He reported that the 1994 - 1995 codes will be
adopted "one of these days".

Traffic Engineering - Mr. Mevissen stated all the money requested is the same as last year
except the number for the electric utility is up for street lights and street striping. We will
be doing more because of more MSA streets. We have been using Anoka County for the
striping. He stated he has gotten prices from other companies and it figures out to be about
18¢ a foot. Anoka County does it for about 9¢ so even with the extra charges, it's still a lot
less. This is for striping the center lines and the shoulders of the MSA roads.

Mr. Schroeder inquired about crosswalks. The only one we have now is at 153rd Avenue
N.W. and Hematite N.W.

Mr. Jankowsld stated that we should also be thinking about turn lanes.

Mr. Schroeder stated that also the signs on 153/155 "sneak up on you".

Mr. Jankowski stated that he had a conversation with Anoka County awhile ago and they
are still working on it.

Mr. Schroeder inquired what a big sign would cost.

Mr. Jankowsld thought it may cost about $50 - probably about $120 installed.

Staff Budget Meeting/July 19, 1994
