Absent: Boardmembers McLaughlin and <br />Wilson. <br /> <br />Ms. McAloney stated that a previous member of the Fire Department ,who was injured in <br />October 1990, had a physical examination to rejoin the Department. Jay Guimont was <br />found "fit" for the position and will rejoin the Department on September 7, 1994. <br /> <br />Case #4: Purchasing Two Fire Department Pagers <br /> <br />Fire Chief Griffin stated that there are currently 25 Fire Fighters in the Fire Department and <br />there will be two more following the recommendation of the previous case. The <br />Department will need two additional pagers at an approximate cost of $900. He stated that <br />Finance Officer Hart has indicated there are sufficient dollars within the Fire Department <br />budget to purchases these two pagers. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Mayor Gilbertson to approve the two <br />Fire Department pagers at an approximate total cost of $900 and forward the <br />recommendation to the Finance Committee and City Council. <br /> <br />Motion carded. Absent: Boardmembers McLaughlin and <br />Wilson. <br /> <br />Case #5: Fire Department Driving Policy <br /> <br />Fire Chief Griffin stated that the Department has had a driving policy but that they are <br />looking for formal acceptance of it to be placed in the City of Ramsey Policy Manual. <br /> <br />Councilmember Beyer indicated she would be in favor of the driving policy providing it <br />was written by the Chief and the Fire Department. <br /> <br />Boardmember Simpson noted the portion of the policy entitled Requirements: Second <br />occurrence: It reads: "The Fire Fighter will receive a second written warning. The Fire <br />Fighters will also be restricted to responding from the station only after the first two units <br />have left". He suggested that "for a period of 30 calendar days" be added to that sentence. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Mayor Gilbertson to approve the Fire <br />Department Driving Policy, as amended, and forward the recommendation to the City <br />Council for placement in the City of Ramsey Policy Manual. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Absent: Boardmembers McLaughlin and <br />Wilson. <br /> <br />Case #6: Purchase of Equipment <br /> <br />Safety Officer Steve Wilson stated that when the Fire Department purchased their helmets, <br />they were supposedly the best there was. They are no longer legal. He recommended <br />allocating funding to purchase new helmets. He reported that he is not comfortable with <br />fire fighters wearing these helmets as their structural integrity has diminished to nothing. <br />He feared the fire fighters are at risk wearing these helmets. He added that these helmets <br />do not currently meet OSHA standards. He presented a couple of the helmets to show the <br />Board what happens to them in intense heat.
