CASE INITIATE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT #99-10 WATERMAIN AND SEWER EXTENSION TO WALTE. K AND WATERMAIN LOOPING By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer Background: The Walte~ Corporation is currently undergoing an expansion of their existing facility, which will[necessitate the extension of municipal sanitary sewer main and watermain. Looping th~ watermain north of Waltek up to Sunwood Drive, an additional distance of 1000 feet, Would complete a 12-inch trunk main loop. This would provide enhanced fire flows and ~stem reliability to the Sunfish Lake Boulevard businesses by furnishing them with a baC~-up water source. The anticipated cost of this sanitary sewer and watermain work is $163,000. If the project is undertaken as an assessment project, an estimated total of $145,000 would be generated By the project assessment, however, the project would probably be completed in late OctOber. In addition, two of the four properties to be assessed have informally expressed bpposition to the assessment. On the other hand, the project could be completed primarily with utility funds and be completed by mid-August. If this financing method is ~:hosen, an agreement should be made with Waltek to pay their share of the project, wl~ich is estimated at $58,000. Committee Action: On of the following actions should be taken: (1) MotiOn to direct City Engineer to prepare a feasibility study for Improvement Projegt #99-10 so that a public hearing on the assessment project costs can be scheduled. -OR- (2) MotiOn to direct the preparation of Plans and Specifications for Improvement ProjeCt #99-10 at a cost not-to-exceed $13,000.
