CASE <br /> <br /> Replacement Costs for Street Signs <br />By: Grant Riemer, Public Works Supervisor <br /> <br />Background: <br /> ; <br /> <br />At the Feb~ary 16,1999 Public Works Committee meeting, the Public Works Supervisor <br />inforrnedt~e Committee of the need to change our street signs. Our current design is not <br />in compli~ce with The Manual of Uniform Traffic ControI Devices. At that time, the <br />Committe~ asked the department to give a cost estimate to switch over. The Public <br />Works D~artment considered the following options: <br /> <br />I. D~ nothing <br />In this option the Public Works Department would only replace signs with the new design <br />as they became damaged or stolen. <br /> <br /> [ <br />II. Manufacture our own signs <br /> <br />Advantages <br />a) Need f@r sign inventory is minimal. <br />b) Qualit~ coatrol <br />c) Quick ~a-naround time on sign replacement <br />d) The ability to make custom signs for various City functions <br />e) Sign ~aking and installation could be done in winter <br /> <br />Disadvantages <br />a) Initial ~tart up cost (Approximately $15,000.00) <br />b) Labor involved in sign making process <br />c) Space ~aeeded for operation <br /> <br />III.
