Equipment Performance

The equipment held up extremely well this year. In previous years we had experienced
transmissi~on problems on some of the cul-de-sac trucks. Thankfully, this w.~ not the case
this year. 'Our largest repair this season was a broken wing post on a 2-½ ton plow truck.

Break do~Wn of complaints

We as a d~partment received 67 phone calls on our snow plowing operations this season.
It is our policy to return all phone calls, or talk to the residents in person, if that's what
they request, about damage and other concerns.

The ratio 9f complaints from residents living on streets or cul-de-sacs was the following:
33% from residents living on cul-de-sacs
67% from residents living on streets

The majority of calls were as follow:

Sod Damtage-27%
Mail BoxiDamage-7%
Request for Sand-19%

The remainder of the phone calls consisted of such things as snow in front of mailboxes,
snow in diSveways, drifting snow, roads not plowed, etc .....

To be fair to our Department, and especially the drivers and operators, we also received
numerous: compliments on their work. We as a department, and especially myself, need
to spend just as much effort tracking the compliments, as we do the complaints. Our
drivers an~i:l operators plow and maintain over 146 miles of roadway and 227 cul-de-sacs
throughou~t the winter. To receive 67 phone calls in a City with of a population of almost
19,000 is, lin my opinion, exceptional.

New Equipment

Next year~s snow removal fleet will include the following new equipment:
1999 John De, ere Motor Grader
1999 Sterl. ing 2 ½ ton Plow Truck
1999 Ford F-450 Superduty 1-Ton
Snow blower attachment for skid steer '

Additional Activities

Some of the other activities we undertake during the winter months, other than snow and
ice control, are as follows:
Brush cutting
Vehicle Maintenance

\URA_FS 1 ~VOL l\usersWrhieling\~JO\COUNCIL&UROAD&BRBSummary for 1998-1999 snow
season.doc05/14/99
