No <br />person shall ~riVe a vehicle on a highway at a speed greater <br />than is reaso~abie and prudent under the conditions. Every <br />driver is responsible for becoming and remaining aware of the <br />actual and potential hazards then existing on the highway and <br />must use due Car~ in operating a vehicle. In every event speed <br />shall be so r~st~icted as may be necessary to avoid colliding <br />with any person,,vehicle or other conveyance on or entering the <br />highway in co~91~ance with legal requirements and the duty of <br />all persons t8 use due care. <br /> <br /> Subd. 2. I S~eed limits. (a) Where no special hazard <br />exists the following speeds shall be lawful, but any speeds in <br />excess of suc~ limits shall be prima facie evidence that the <br />speed is not ~eaSonable or prudent and that it is unlawful; <br />except that t~e ~peed limit within any municipality shall be a <br />maximum limitland any speed in excess thereof shall be unlawful: <br /> (1) ~0 mil~s Per hour in an urban district or on a town <br />road in a rural residential district; <br /> <br /> (2) 65 mil~s ~er hour on non-Interstate freeways and <br />expressways, ?s ~efined in section 160.02, subdivision 19; <br /> <br /> (3) 55 mil~s per hour in locations other than those <br />specified in ~thiS section; <br /> <br /> (4) 70 mi~es ~er hour on Interstate highways outside the <br />limits of an~ u~an~zed area w~th a population of greater than <br />50,000 as de~ine~ by order of the commissioner of <br />transportation; ' <br /> <br /> (5) 65 mi~es Per hour on Interstate highways inside the <br />limits of an~ u~banized area with a population of greater than <br />50,000 as defined by order of the commissioner of <br />transportation;~ <br /> <br /> (6) ten m~leS per hour in alleys; and <br /> <br /> (7) 25 miies ~ger hour in residential roadways if adopted by <br />the road author%ty having jurisdiction over the residential <br />roadway.
