Backgrgund:
:

D.A.R.E. GRANT APPLICATION
By: Mike Auspos, Police Chief

CASE

On Deceinbeg' 30, 1991 I received an application from the State of Minnesota announcing a
grant prc~a.m for communities which are just starting a D.A.R.E. program. The amount
of the grlant ~s up to $4,000 and one-half of the grant will be distributed in February of
1992 and thd rest in December of 1992. The deadline for submitting this grant request is
January 3.7, ~992. Finance Officer Helling and I have completed the form and sent it in for
approval. Sii~ce I was not prepared for the January 14, 1992 Council meeting and had lost
track of t Ne [~anuary 27, 1992 application date deadline, this is being submitted to Council
somewh, t after the fact. We are not, of course, bound to accept the grant by having made
applicati~)n. :, While the application does require a matching fund arrangement, these
matching furl. ds can be in-kind and can be the office, r's salary while instructing D.A.R.E.
We have alr~,ady committed our budget to an officer s salary for 1992 as it is and this can
be considrered as matching for purposes of this grant.
[
If we rec~fivelthe maximum amount of the grant it would largely pay the costs budgeted for
D.A.R.E.~ in 'i992.
Council I Action:

,
Discuss ~e ~tpphcat~on for the grant and decide whether or not to ratify the application
o
already sabrr~itted by Chief Auspos.

Review ,Checklist:

City Administrator
Finance Qffic~r
Police Chief '-

BC: 01/28/92
CC: 01/2~8/92
