CASE #

TwO-PLACE SPRING RIDER FOR PELTZER PARK PLAYGROUND
By: Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Coordinator

Backgroun~d:

Last year, tl~e City assisted with the receipt and installation of two donated players benches for
River's Bend, softball field. The sponsor of this improvement was Bruce Erickson of the Youth
Outreach (}rOupifrom the Lord of Life Church in Ramsey. This group has an interest in donating
$400 for you}h-r~lated activities again this year. The folks involved chose Peltzer Park as the place
and a two-pl~ce ~pring rider as the improvement. The toddler-suitable activity takes the form of a
blue whale ~ith Peltzer Park's ponds providing a diminutive ocean-like background.

Last year Ciiy Staff reformatted the play equipment and retrofitted the playground with resilient
surfacing. S~ac~ within the play area was deliberately left for spring riders, a popular event for the
very young. '

Observations:

The cost of the two-place ride is $416 with tax and shipping bringing the total to $510. Lord of
Life's OutreaCh ~3roup desires to allocate $400 towards purchase of the whale. This Staff person
has witnessed ..gyandparents driving youngsters to the playground; a spring rider would be a
welcome co~pli~ment to the park. There remains adequate funds in the park's supplies budget for
concrete and !he $110 cost differential.

The City may~ seo the church participate in subsequent years.

Enclosed for your information:

1) Site 16catiOn map
2) Fuzz~ photo of the two-place spring rider
Budget Committee Action:

Motion to recommend Staff facilitate donation of the whale with a difference of approximately
$110 to be fut~ded from the park's supplies budget.

Reviewed bP:

Parks/Utilities~ Coordinator

BC: 10/27/92

Copies also distributed to:

City Adminislxator
Finance Officer
