Board Member Max stated that a possible topic of presentation could be proper maintenance of
septic systems, as that seems to be an issue for some people.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson reported that classes are already offered from time to time
on that issue by Anoka County.

Board Member Max stated that they could extend an invitation to the Sierra Club.

Board Member Bentz questioned where the location will be for the event and whether or not
space will be limited.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that the expo would be held at the Municipal
Center.

Chairperson McDilda stated that the Ramsey Room is about 25% of the size of the previous
locations where the expo has been held.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson explained that they could get creative with space and use
the hallways for additional displays, and also other rooms for presentations.

Chairperson McDilda stated that there has never been a lack of ideas in the past and was glad
that the issue was brought up now to give them some time to think about the expo. He suggested
that Ace Solid Waste be contacted to come to the expo and discuss recycling. He explained that
not only can they give information on recycling, but they could also probably generate some new
business.

Board Member Max stated that Prairie Restoration could be contacted for native landscaping.
He also suggested that presentations be done consecutively to ensure that enough people attend
each one, since there will only be two or three presentations.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he will also see about partnering with local
schools for this event, at least to get the children bringing home information on the expo to their
parents. He reported that Staff will be doing the planning for the event, but they are open to any
involvement the EPB would like to have.

Board Member Max suggested partnering with local businesses to give away prizes for
children's contests.

Board Member Bentz questioned if there was a 4H group in the area, as there could also be a
contest between 4H, the Girl Scouts, and the Boy Scouts.

Board Member Max stated that the expo would be a great place for Eagle Scouts to get
information.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that the purpose of this case was to let the EPB
know that Staff has started planning for the expo, and they are open to having the involvement of
the Board. He explained that the mission of the Board is to educate the public and this would be
a great opportunity to do that.
Environmental Policy Board / November 5, 2007
Page 5 of7
