6) <br /> <br />If there is a 3-2 split decision, should an appointment be made? What is the impact if an <br />appointment is not made? <br /> <br />The appointment of the Sergeant is an important step for the City of Ramsey. Since January 1, <br />1979, the Police Chief has been the only supervisory position within that Department. The <br />Sergeant position will likely be the only other supervisory position within the Police Department <br />for some period of time. I believe that, in appointing this position, it is important that the <br />individual has the support of the Police Chief, the Patrol Officers, other management staff within <br />the City of Ramsey and the City Council. Therefore, it is important that Council consider the <br />impact of the appointment carefully and to follow whatever procedure necessary in order to become <br />fully comfortable with the appointment. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recommends that Council review the applications and testing and interview materials and <br />make their decision.
