MEMO

DATE:

January 4, 2008

TO:

Economic Development Authority
Environmental Policy Board
Park and Recreation Commission

FROM:

Sylvia Frolik, Interim Community Development Director

RE:

Comprehensive Plan Update

Dear Commissioners and Boardmembers;

As you may know, the City of Ramsey is in the process of updating the City's Comprehensive Plan.
The Metropolitan Council requires all municipalities in the Twin Cities metro area to submit an
update of their Comprehensive Plans to them by the end of2008. In anticipation of this deadline, the
City hired a consultant (Bonestroo) and conducted a series of 11 community meetings (Open Space
Technology sessions) to gain input from the residents. After six months of data collection and
listening to the residents, the draft goals and policies are ready for review.

Weare relying on you as active volunteers in the community to assist us in reviewing these goals
and policies. We anticipate that all sections would be of interest to you, however, we would
especially welcome feedback with regard to the section that specifically pertains to your area of
expertise. Included in the "draft goals and policies" document are an Economic Development
section, a Natural Resources section, and a Parks and Recreation section, as well as the appropriate
chapter of the existing Comprehensive Plan. Please read the draft goals and policies, scrutinize them,
and offer additions, deletions, or amendments. A member of the planning staff will be present at
your regular January meeting to review the goals and policy objectives, gather your comments, and
answer any questions you may have.

Additionally, there is an upcoming public meeting on January 16th at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council
Chambers where Bonestroo will be presenting the draft goals and policies and receiving input from
the general public. We hope you will attend this important meeting to hear what others have to say
with regard tothe draft goals and policies. Also, the City has a Comprehensive Plan website with up-
to-date information about the Comp Plan process, future meetings, and a list serve link to
automatically receive notifications via email. Please visit the website at
www.ci.ramsey.mn.us/comp~lan for copies of the comments from the community planning sessions
or for more information regarding the Comp Plan process.

Thank you for participating in the review of the draft goals and policies. Please call me at (763) 433-
9846 if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Sylvia Frolik
Interim Community Development Director

Enclosures
