Commissioner Cleveland wondered: if someone could put up a sign for six weeks, take it down
for four and put it up again.
Associate Planner. Dalnes stated with the current ordinance they would track it through a permit.
With the proposed ordinance they would not be requiring a permit or fee so she would propose
they go out once a month and record the signs to determine what signs have been placed in the
City.
Commissioner Vail Scoy asked if someone needed a temporary sign for six months, is that
permitted.
Associate Planner Dalnes indicated it is not allowed, and would be considered a permanent sign.
Commissioner Van Scoy wondered if there would be a way to have an exception for this.
Associate Planner Dalnes stated staff could explore this and come back with some suggestions.
Commissioner Hunt stated he understood but did not think someone would want to construct a
more permanent sign for six months. He thought there could be some type of permitting process
that could be done for this if they can show cause. He thought this ,maybe something that could
be handled on the staff level.
The Commission indicated they would like to some sort of flexibility for longer sign display.
Commissioner Brauer stated the fifty square feet sign in a residential area is a big sign and
thought the size should be lowered.
Associate Planner Dalnes stated currently they do not have any sign size limit and by indicating a
size limit to fifty feet, this tightens up things. She stated if they start limiting residential.
properties, they start limiting what was allowed in the past and that was what she was trying to
avoid was to make things stricter than what they were in the past.
Commissioner Van Scoy stated he was comfortable with the changes.
Commissioner Brauer wondered if they could have Chairperson Nixt review this before an
approval was brought forward.
Associate Planner Dalnes stated staff could do this.
-173-
