COMMIS$1~ON BUSINESS <br /> <br />Case #1: > COmmissioner Thorson's letter of resignation from the Economic <br /> Development Commission. <br /> <br />Commissior~er Thorson submitted a letter of resignation to Chairperson Kenneth Wagner which <br />will be attac~l a~ Exhibit A of these minutes. Commissioner Thorson stated that she has recently <br />accepted a hew position which will require a considerable amount of travel and would not allow <br />her the time :n~eSSary to be an effective member of the EDC. She believes that it is very important <br />to have peoI~l~ who are willing and able to spend their time working with the activities of the EDC. <br />CommissioOer' Thorson indicated that she would still be able to assist with EDC projects, as a <br />volunteer, al~ timg permits. She also made a statement emphasizing the importance of business <br />visitations. : <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Kent and seconded by Commissioner Greenberg to accept <br />Commissio~et Thorson's resignation and recommend to the City Council to advertise to fill the <br />vacancy for the F_~onomic Development Commission <br /> <br />Motion carded. Voting Yes: Chairperson Wagner, Commissioners Gorecki, Greenberg, Kent, <br />Nelson, Schroedor and Thorson. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Fults and Vevea. <br /> <br />Case #2: BUsiness Appreciation Day Golf Tournament. <br /> <br />As in the past; the, EDC and the Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring the annual <br />Ramsey Built, esS Appreciation Day at Rum River Hills Golf Course. This year, the event has <br />been schedtfle/l for August 28, 1992. Commissioner Fults has provided the required information <br />to City Staf~ ~ davelop a flyer with the application and schedule of events for the day. This is a <br />change in pt~st p~motion of this event, in that prior to this year, a letter was sent to each of the <br />prospective .9~m'ti¢ipants. This year a tri-fold flyer will be printed and mailed to reduce costs of <br />both paper ~t pOstage. Enclosed as Exhibit B of these minutes is a copy of the proposed flyer. <br />Commissiofig Flalts has also provided for a budget for Business Appreciation Day. This is <br />enclosed as ~Xhit~it C. The budget includes total expected costs of $4,800 and the total amount of <br />income base~liupon 100 golfers and an additional 20 people at just the dinner to be $4,800. One of <br />the tasks for!t~he I~DC along with the Anoka Area Chamber will be the recruitment of prizes for a <br />raffle. In the'ipaSt, Commissioner Schroeder had indicated an interest in helping requisition of <br />donated prizes from various organizations and businesses throughout the City. <br /> <br />Motion by i Commissioner Gorecki and seconded by Commissioner Thorson to appoint <br />Commissio~ler F!!lts as Chairperson and Commissioner Schroeder as Vice Chairperson of the <br />Business Ap?eciation Day Committee. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Wagner, Commissioners Gorecki, Greenberg, Kent, <br />Nelson, SchrOeder and Thorson. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Fults and Vevea. <br /> <br />Mr. Gromb~rg indicated that he will be contacting Pete Turok of the Anoka Area Chamber of <br />Commerce and also Commissioners Darryl Fults and Alice Schroeder in a few days to review <br />planning of the Business Appreciation Day. <br /> <br />There was a~iscttssion regarding nominations on the appointment to the City of Ramsey Business <br />Hall of Fame.: NO one was was appointed for 1990 at the 1991 Business Appreciation Day. <br /> <br />After a brief~discussion, it was decided that nominees would not be voted on but business people <br />would be chosen by the Economic Development Commission for their outstanding contributions to <br />the City in ~nomic growth and business climate.
