Chairpersori Wagner indicated he strongly supported that any recommendations need to come from
the businesSeS and property owners; it should not seem that the City is telling them what to do.

Commissiotacr Yevea strongly recommended scheduling the meeting when Mr. Greenberg is able
to attend b~k:~tuse he has been involved in the platting and the sale of the property to all of those
property o~ners.

Commissioger Gl'eenberg indicated that although there are some disagreements between businesses
located in the industrial area, some of those businesses may actually be located in the wrong area to
begin with. ~This!is unfortunate, but now we must deal with the problem of trying to have all of the
businesses,[whether or not they are located in the right area, peacefully coexist and protect one
anothefs pV, Opert;Y value and each company's investment in their facilities. One of the businesses
that may b~ -located in the wrong area is the Altron facility. It is located in more of a heavy
industrial area and it may have been better to locate it in a light industrial district.

Commissioner Faits indicated that one of the main reasons he wanted to locate in Ramsey was that
there was 6n available labor force for the type of employees he needed to attract. These are
traditionally~ lPart;time, temporary workers and he can adjust the schedule around their schedules at
home.

Consensus =was to schedule such meeting for Thursday, November 12, 1992 at 7:00 p.m. at
Ramsey Municipal Center.

Commissior~or Sehroeder recommended that the City consider a neutral, third party to moderate the
meeting in ar/effort to prevent the City from appearing to dictate to individual property owners. It
will also h~lp pt'event individual businesses from monopolizing on issues that they feel are
important. C~m~issioner Schroeder also mentioned that it may be a good idea to contact Anoka
CoUnty Mediatiofl Service to see if they could provide a person to act as moderator for the meeting.

Commissioner Kent suggested contacting Pete Turok of the Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce as
he may be aware of other available services and persons who could act as moderator for this
meeting.

Motion by Commissioner Schroeder and seconded by Commissioner Kent to contact Anoka
County Met!tation Services to act as a moderator for this meeting and, if they are unavailable,
contact an oi~t~sid¢ or neutral third party to act as mediator for the informational meeting to be held
on Novembi~r 12,~ 1992 at 7:00 p.m. at Ramsey Municipal Center.

Motion carried. A discussion took place regarding suggested
improvemerits for next year and the things that went well at this year's Expo. It was mentioned
that attendance Was down somewhat compared with 1991. This was mainly due to the nice
weather whieli Was preceded by several days of rainy cold weather. The Committee will be
encouraged I~to do additional advertising for 1993, including the possibility of doing inserts twice
and a widest .area for the inserts. While this may increase the cost of the Expo, it may be
advantageous m the fact that the City will have a greater turn-out and more businesses attending.
This year th,~:e Were 42 businesses present and the attendance was about 1,000 people. In 1991,
there were appro>fimately 54 businesses with 1,200 to 1,500 in attendance.

Economic Development Commission/October 14, 1992
Page 3 of 4
