the Fire BO~d directed Chief Griffin and Assistant Chief Kapler to visit neighboring Fire <br />Departments to di)termine what equipment would be compatible with those departments. <br /> <br />The Fire B~d SUggested that the Department consider charging for Fire Reports as a source of <br />revenue and~tO discuss the possibility of fines and fees going into the Department s budget. <br /> <br />City Admin}rSirat~r Schroeder stated that all revenue sources of this type currently are revenues to <br />the General Fand ~ffsetting all departmental expenditures. <br />The consenSas of the Fire Board was that Fire Chief Griffin and City Administrator Schroeder <br />should fill ~n~thE blanks and question marks on the proposed budget and submit the updated <br />version to tl'le~Fir¢ Board to review. <br /> <br />Case #2: Discussion of the Proposed Seven Year Capital Expansion Plan <br /> <br />Fire Chief ~fiffiia stated his goal is 30 to 36 additional people by the year 2000. He estimated <br />equipment ~ds [and replacements for each year starting with 1993. The Fire Board directed Fire <br />Chief Griffi~ to COntact several cities to find out their population and their number of fire calls per <br />year to dete~inaiif population density impacts fire call numbers. This would assist in projecting <br />the approxirhate humber of fire calls for future years in accordance with the projected population <br />for the Cit3¢ ' InOreased population and quicker response may result in a possible need for an <br />addinonal sttlt6on ~ouse for the Fire Department. Resident s homeowners insurance rates generally <br />decrease in ~gistaaCes where a Fire Station is located in close proximity. Different locations for an <br />additional sthfion ~were briefly discussed. <br /> <br />Councilme~l~er peterson commented it might be very important for the Fire Department to watch <br />the building~d goning plans as a high rise building would cause a need for a ladder truck, etc. <br /> <br />Boardmeml:ler Slfarp mentioned that the Fire Department is experiencing difficulty getting more <br />daytime fir~' figtgers and questioned if maybe some of the requirements could be changed (i.e. <br />allowing pe~s0ns ~ho smoke cigarettes, etc.). <br /> <br />Fire Chief (3tiffin stated that because of the increase in insurance costs to hire smokers, etc., this <br />option wou.ld' be iused only if it became absolutely necessary. He suggested that the least cost <br />might be to Increase the wage for the fire fighters. <br /> <br />A suggestion, was that maybe persons working for the City of Ramsey could be daytime fire <br />fighters or if employers would allow, persons working in the City could be recruited for daytime <br />fire fighters/ : <br /> <br />Chief Griffiyt stated that he will continue to present this proposed expansion plan as changes are <br />made. <br /> <br />Case #3: Rgview Recommendations of the Interviewing Panel <br /> <br />Fire Chief .Oflffin summarized the background information of two of the fire fighter applicants, <br />Jon McLauflhiin and Steve Friese. <br /> <br />Motion by Boardmember Pearson and seconded by Boardmember Simpson to approve the <br />recommendStlonS of the interviewing panel and recommend that the position of Volunteer Fire <br />Fighter be o~f6red to Jon McLaughlin and Steve Friese. <br /> <br />Motion car~."¢d.
