A mix of housing, employment, shopping and entertainment <br />2. Commercial development to ease tax burden or robust economic tax base <br />3. A healthy tax base. vibrant parks open space; walkable community; well-planned community <br />for near term as well as long-term needs <br /> <br />Strengths and Weaknesses <br /> <br />There was discussion on the following comments about Ramsey's strengths submitted by <br />Council and staff prior to the retreat. Consensus was reached to modify the list of assets as <br />follows, with the majority of Council and staff selecting the top three assets as A, E and G. <br /> <br />A. Natural Amenities, Resources / Parks and Trail System <br />a. Trott Brook <br />b. The Mississippi and Rum Rivers <br />c. Wetlands, woodland, etc. <br />d. Large properties with natural resources and wildlife <br />B. Urban to rural landscape <br />C. Community not yet defined, undeveloped <br />a. Much of what we have is a blank slate <br />b. Space for commercial development <br />c. Look at others and not reinvent the wheel <br />d. Town Center Potential- infrastructure ready to go <br />e. Plenty of valuable open space for development <br />D. Combined with A <br />E. City Staff / City Services in place, organization sized to be responsive <br />a. Strong public service departments <br />b. Dedicated staff <br />c. Well thought of by county, state, federal and regional people <br />d. Works well as a team and is able to understand big picture issues while also <br />working on daily tasks in an efficient manner <br />e. Relatively young staff, open to new ideas, ideas for change <br />f. Most people seem to like and are happy working here <br />F. Residents <br />a. Who are smart, interesting, with a variety of professional experiences and who are <br />willing to contribute positively to the community <br />b. We have visionary individuals who are passionate about what they do <br />G.
