COUNCIL AND STAFF (TOGETHER) TO BE MORE EFFECTIVE
A. Trust that we are all working in the best interest of the citizens of Ramsey.
City of Ramsey
Council /Staff Retreat
February 1, 2, 2008
Call staff prior to meetings for additional information or input on agenda cases so staff
and Council can be better prepared for action.
C. Give constructive feedback about the information staff provides - is it enough or the
right information for them to use in decision- making?
D. Understand the effect of television on meetings - how to promote a positive image of
the City.
ACTION ITEMS
Throughout the retreat there we various suggestions made and directions given for follow -up.
1) Update the City of Ramsey 2008 Objectives & Work Plan with information that came
out of this retreat e.g. goals and priorities, and action items.
2) Take the five year goals back to the city council for refinement, rewording.
3) Staff to prepare the City Council on proposal when developer comes forward.
4) Re- engage the public on big changes to the master development plan (incorporate
OST and Ramsey Town Center Task Force in the public participation).
5) Review comprehensive plan regarding the Town Center -- "what" is in there, what
needs to be modified based upon recent discussions regarding big box, green space,
etc.
6) Include the results of the Employee Survey in a Council packet.
7) Consider (both Council and Staff) using all the suggestions made regarding Council
and Staff effectiveness. There continues to be a sense that there is more work to do in
this area.
8) Articulate a process for bringing a new development proposal to council and the
public for consideration. (Kurt Ulrich)
9) Review what other cities are doing regarding communications and present information
to city council. (Heidi Nelson)
13
-207-
