t-'1

Memo

Cit)l of ~
RAMSEY

To:
From:

~:::~c~:v~~;~~n7::::r AmberG. Mi~

City Administrator Kurt Ulrich .
4/2/2008
Approval of Proposal for Ramsel Facilitation

cc:
Date:
Re:

The attached is a proposal for services from Dan Marckel of the Center of Urban and Regional Affairs,
for facilitating activities for the Ramsel project. This is the third phase to the McKnight Foundation
Grant the City received. Ramsel is a unique three-part process designed to .assist the community in
. charting its future course. During Ramsei nationally-renowned experts led a series of four public
forums and staff/council workshops organized arqund four critical issues facing metropolitan
communities: transportation, . innovative zoning, regional intersections, and community ecology.
Ramsel used the innovative technique of Open Space Technology to allow participants to create and
manage their own agenda of parallel working sessions around central themes of strategic importance.
We are currently engaged in the final stage-~Ramsel--which will continue to use facilitation tools not
commonly Used by cities to develop a shared vision and explore unique and cutting-edge tools to
implement that vision.

The group would like to utilize the services of Dan Marckel to assist them as they move forward with
this process. The proposal is a lump sum of $7,500 and will be funded by the McKnight Foundation
Grant. There will be four or five more meetings to complete this final stage and then the findings would
be presented to the larger community in an Open Space Technology (OST) Format event. This is
expected to be completed by the end of June 2008.

Staff recommends Council approve the proposal submitted by Dan Marckel to facilitate the Ramsey3
working group activities.

Revi.wed bY:~ I ~
CWAdministraW' .~~
I'

-23:..
