CASE # ~

REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS
By: Public Works Staff

Background:

The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, March 18,2008 and discussed the following five
cases:

CITIZEN INPUT

Case #1

Consider Authorization of Improvement Project 08-XX Watermain-Looping
from Alpine Park to Regency Ponds 3rd Addition

Background:

Staff has been in talks with the MPCA to acquire the necessary easements to complete the -
watermain looping. In looking at this situation, staff found. other possible changes that could be
made, such as a trail connection and roadway connection to eliminate the long cuI de sac at
Gamet Street. Staff is looking for Council direction on whether to pursue these connections at
the same time as the watermain looping is completed.

MPCA has indicated that they will not contest the eminent domain action necessary for the
connections and will grant the necessary easements for the watermain looping. Another thing for
the Council to consider is the potential construction of an access road and limited parking
facilities for the skate park at Alpine Park which could be done as part of this project also
because it would be within the alignment.

Motion to recommend that the City move forward with neighborhood meetings for Project #08-
XX, Alpine Park watennain looping; including the roadway and trail connections, and parking
facilities, because the Public Works Commission feels there is a priority in completing the three
projects at once. This case will be brought back to the next Public Works Committee meeting in
April for further discussion.

Action:

Ratify the recommendation of the PublicW orks Committee.

Case #2

Consider Comment from 2008 Street Maintenance Program Public Hearing

Background:

Staff statE:d that at the March 11, 2008 Council meeting, ChasLundgren of Vision Ease asked the
City to consider delaying the sealcoating project on Sunwood Drive in front of their location for
a year.
