Request and Highlights of the <br /> SUmmer's Park Improvements <br /> <br />Parks/Utilities Coordinator Boos stated he had hoped to have more information regarding the <br />C.I.P. requests; however, the next Budget Committee meeting is scheduled for October 27. He <br />stated at this: point, the Budget Committee is trying to determine a funding source for park <br />improvemerlts otitside of the general fund. He added it would be helpful to have a general idea of <br />the amountWan~d for subsequent years to help better plan. With regard to highlights of the <br />summer's park improvements, Mr. Boos stated that probably in December, he would formulate a <br />year-to-dato asse~mblage of what's occurred. He commented on the wood chip trail in River's <br />Bend Park done ~s an Eagle Scout project and commented also on the improvements to Flintwood <br />Hills and Ramsey Terrace Parks. Another Eagle Scout project was working around the newly <br />planted trees in Rabbit Park. Other Eagle Scout projects that are taking place are maintenance <br />improvements to Titterud Park and the painting of the fire hydrants in the City. <br /> <br />Case #2: R~port on Status of Ramsey, Latest Community Forestry Initiatives, <br /> Oak Wilt Suppression and Energy Conservation <br /> <br />Parks/Utilities Ck)ordinator Boos stated that the City had recently received confirmation of <br />approximately $33,000 reserved to assist with the beginning of oak wilt suppression. This would <br />allow for cost share work undertaken by Ramsey residents. Another grant just submitted focuses <br />on energy conservation. This grant is for approximately $25,000 for tree planting primarily for <br />shading. The I .argest component of another grant involves Arbor Day events. Mr. Boos <br />requested, in the grant application, money for a forestry person to serve as organizer including the <br />Arbor eventS. With regard to the oak wilt suppression, Mr. Boos stated that the City, as of <br />tomorrow, would have an oak wilt infection center map. This map would enable Staff to <br />determine what areas would be good targets for the suppression program. Mr. Boos stated the <br />target areas would most likely be private land. He explained how the cost share program would <br />work. <br /> <br />Commissioner Florentius arrived (7:21 p.m.). <br /> <br />Case #3: <br /> <br />Proposal for City Council Consideration of an Official Medium for <br />Re,cognition Volunteers and Park Sponsors <br /> <br />Parks/Utilities Coordinator Boos stated that City Staff, City Council and individuals are looking <br />for a uniform way to recognize volunteers and park sponsors. <br /> <br />Following a lengthy discussion, consensus of the Park and Recreation Commission was to <br />recommend the fo[~lowing three-tier recognition proposal to the City Council: <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Commission/September 10, 1992 <br /> Page 2 of 4 <br /> <br /> <br />
