CASE # 2

CONSIDER SUPPORT FOR ANOKA AQUATIC CENTER FOR 2008
By: Leonard Linton, Civil Engineer II

Background:

The City has supported the Anoka Aquatic Center with a cash contribution for the past
ten (10) years. The issue has beeri addressed at the Finance Committee and Council
meetings with the decision being to continue on a year to year basis. This program is
supported from the charitable gambling fund, so it should be reviewed by the Park and
Recreation Commission then forwarded to the City Council for action. The last several
years the Parks and Recreation Commission has recommended the funds directed towards
a community center or pool in Ramsey and not be used to support the Anoka Pool. The
City Council changed the Lawful Gambling Policy to increase the amount the City
receives and how the funds can be used. There is another case on the agenda discussing
the use of charitable gambling funds for program support.

Observation:

The historical data is presented below:

Participation
(Ramsey Residents)
Family Passes
(individuals
covered)

1998
1999
2000
2001
2002
2003
2004
2005
2006
2007

393
454
260
328
284
275
298
340
322
308

Totals

3,262

Total Participants

Average
Resident
Participation!
year

Lessons
237
271
199
218
120
173
179
253
219
191

2,060

5,322

326 200

Fee Savings
Pass

2008 Rates
Res $37

Fee Savings

Family Passes
$3,930.00
4,540.00
2,598.00
3,280.00
2,848.00
2,750.00
2,980.00
3,400.00
3,220.00
3,080.00

Lessons
$1,896.00
2,168.00
1,592.00
1,744.00
960.00
1,384.00
1,432.00
2,214.00
1,971.00
1,910.00

City Contrib.
$4,000
4,000
4,000
4,000
4,000
4,000
4,000
4,000
4,000
4,000

$32,626.00 $17,271.00

$40,000.00

$49,897.00
