<br />CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION <br />Topic Report: Community Center Task Force <br />By: Heidi A. Nelson, Asst. City Administrator <br /> <br /> <br />Background: <br />At the council work session of March 25, 2008, the concept of 80 community center was <br />discussed and representatives from Flagship Fitness~a new fitness provider in the metro market, <br />presented a concept of a possible partnership between the City and Flagship for a community <br />center project. There was discussion re: next steps that included a possible community surveyor <br />proceeding with establishing a Community Center Task Force; Council direction was to proceed <br />with establishing a Task Force. Staff has researched how other communities who have recently <br />completed a Community Center or similar type project have structured a Task Force for the <br />project. The table below describes the structure from the communities that responded to the <br />mqUIry: <br /> <br />CITY PROJECT TASKFORCE <br />City of Oakdale Discovery Center--combined 2 Councilmembers, Planning <br /> community and Park Commission Chair, <br /> centerlFtecreatio~ature Economic Development <br /> Center Chair, Tree Board Chair <br /> (Total members: 5) <br />City of Richfield City Hall facility 12 residents or business <br /> owners, 1 councilmember, 1 <br /> community services <br /> commission member, 1 <br /> PI,anning Commission member <br /> (Total members: 15) <br />City of Sherburn Rehab Old City Theater EDA served as Task Force <br />City of New DIm Civic Center (hockey, Representatives from seniors <br /> fairground building) and groups, hockey association, <br /> remodeled Field House Chamber of Commerce, Youth <br /> (running track, tennis Groups, Agricultural Society <br /> volleyball, basketball) and an, <br /> expanded Community Center. <br /> (seniors, banquet space) <br /> <br />Staff continues to collect information from other communities that have recently completed a <br />community center or similar project and will bring any new information to the work session. <br /> <br />Staffhas assembled a list of groups/organizations that would have a stake in a community center <br />project in Ramsey.
