CASE # 1

UPDATE ON IP 08-06 ANDRlE STREET IMPROVEMENTS
IN NORTH FORK SUBDIVISION
By: Steven Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:
This case is being prepared subsequent to the approval ofthe Committee's recommendations
which were ratified by the City Council on April 8, 2008 relating to Improvement Project 08-06.
This project originally proposed the standard bituminous. overlay of Audrie Street and three cuI
de sacs to the north on 164th Lane, but is now being considered to be expanded in scope. The
purpose of this case is to provide a project cost estimate and description for the expanded scope
of the work and also outline the next steps for public involvement.
The improvements associated with an expanded scope of the project for Audrie Street would
include the following:
. Reclamation of the existing bituminous and class 5 for reuse as a new base.
. Placement of2" of bituminous base and 1 W' of bituminous wear course on the road.
. Installation ofB style (high backed) concrete curb and gutter.
. The installation of a 10 foot bituminous trail along the east side of Audrie Street and the
north side of 164th Lane. .
. Replacement of all the existing storm basins and the addition of approximately 1200 feet
of storm sewer to improve drainage.
. Restoration of driveways, irrigation systems, and lawns with seeding.
. Retaining wall is anticipated in selected areas.

It is proposed that the new roadway would be approximately the same width as the existing
street, 32 feet from flowline of curb to flowline of curb as compared to 31 feet on the existing
street. Two eleven foot drive lanes are proposed with an eight foot parking lane on the east and
north sides and a two foot curb reaction extension on the west and south sides. Parking would
also need to be restricted on this side of the street. The three cuI de sacs, Halas, Fortman, and
Driscoll Circles, would receive a 1 Yz" bituminous overlay of the existing pavement at the same
time as Audrie Street is reconstructed.
Attached is a preliminary cost estimate which projects the total project cost, including 25% for
overhead to be $1,317,886 with an MSA cost of $1,194,842 assuming the assessment to the
fronting property owners would be the equivalent of the one and one half inch bituminous
overlay proposed for the current IP 08-06. A neighborhood meeting will be scheduled for
Wednesday April 23rd between 6:30 and 8:00 pm to present the project description outlined
above.
