in a City park. He stated that Staff suggested planting the trees at Riverdale Park as it is scheduled for improvements at this time and has recently lost some trees. Environmental Coordinator Anderson acknowledged that there were several dead /dying trees in the park but did not know if there were plans to replace them at this time. He reported that the total stipend to be used to purchase the trees is $360 and advised that would be more than enough to plant one tree per Board Member. He advised that the nursery has a variety of fruit trees available including a handful of apple trees and also cherry, pear, plum and apricot trees. He stated that the bare root varieties would be less expensive than the container varieties. He explained that if they were to purchase seven apple trees they would have about $100 left over with which to purchase a shade tree, as suggested at the last meeting. He suggested an oak tree but advised that they would come only in container grown varieties. He reported that the price for the oak would be about $80. He advised that the trees could be delivered to the site the day of the planting ceremony. He suggested that they discuss the details for that event and advised that they should also extend an informal invitation to the Park Board to attend the event. Board Member Max requested that the oak tree be selected as the Arbor Day Tree and that they then plant the grove of apple trees to go along with it. Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that the Arbor Day event would be weather permitting and advised that the decision would be made the week prior. Board Member Max proposed that the EPB also extend an invitation to the City Council to attend the Arbor Day event. Board Member Stodola questioned if the public would be made aware of the event through advertising. Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that he would be contacting the Anoka County Union to try to get an advertisement in that publication and also advised that there would be an ad on QCTV. He stated that they would also make an announcement about the event at the City Council meeting. Board Member Freeburg questioned if the Board would actually be digging the holes for the trees. Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that Staff will pre -dig the holes for the trees the day of the event but advised that Board would take an active role in the planting of the trees. Board Member Max advised that the Board will be doing the planting and watering and stated that they would be getting dirty. Board Member Freeburg stated that the irrigation system has not yet been installed and advised that they will need a long hose for watering. Environmental Coordinator Anderson reported that the trees would be included in the watering schedule until the irrigation is in place.
