Background:
REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS
By: Public Works Staff
C CASE # 15
The Public. Works Committee met on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 and discussed the following six
cases:
CITIZEN INPUT
Case #1 Summary for 2007 -2008 Snow Removal Season
Background:
Public Works staff reviewed that there were 7 major plowing events this season and 18 minor
events. The snow removal season started on December 2, 2007 and ended April 11, 2008. This
was the first year that staff began pre - wetting the salt using a product called Caliber M1000
which is a corn based product. Part of the usefulness of this product is that there is a reduction in
scatter and bounce as it is laid down on the streets. The complaints received were similar to past
years. This year there were more calls for sidewalk and trail maintenance due to a lot of blowing
and drifting snow. The equipment held up well with only routine maintenance required.
Action:
No action required.
Case #2 Review 2007 -2008 Winter Maintenance Season
Background:
Parks staff stated that for the skating rinks, their goal is to have the ice skateable by Christmas
vacation and that staff volunteers to work in shifts to layer and flood the rinks. The hours of
operation were then reviewed. Typically, the ice is ready from about the 3 week in December
through mid- February. This year there was an increase in users and noted that 30 -40% of the
skaters are female. The rink attendees logged 2,968 visitors at Central Park and 4,572 at the
Ramsey Elementary.
Action:
None required.
Case #3 Consider Authorization of Improvement Project #08 -XX Watermain
Looping from Alpine Park to Regency Ponds 3rd Addition
This is included as a separate case in the agenda.
Case #4: ` Update on IP 08 -06 Andrie Street Improvements in North Forks Subdivision
This is included as part of the 2008 Street Maintenance Program case in the agenda.
