<br />Public Works Director Olson stated that this property owner has stated that he is not interested in <br />selling the property. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen asked how many parking spaces there would be at the park. <br /> <br />Mr. Hamburg stated that there will be 5 parking spaces. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen stated ,that she thinks the concept is great and feels this will give <br />people a different destination on their walks rather than a playground. She stated that this is also <br />a great area for bird watching and doesn't think having a few parking spaces will create a big <br />traffic problem. <br /> <br />Chair Elvig stated that there is an underpass by his house in the Silver Oaks development and he <br />noted that this development is building out a whole lot faster than other developments. He stated <br />that he feels this is because the underpass provides direct access to Elmcrest Park for the <br />residents. <br /> <br />Mr. Schoenbauer stated that developers are telling them that people buy houses based on <br />location, schools, costs and amenities such as access to parks. He reviewed the possible <br />scenarios for a greenway space on the north side of the lake. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that he feels this area may develop with more expensive homes. <br /> <br />Mr. Schoenbauer stated that the City could layout for the developers what it would like to see in <br />terms of greenway space and let the economic situation play out. <br /> <br />Chair Elvig asked if there had been conversations with the landowners because he does not want <br />the message to be sent that the City is trying to stuff this trail plan down their throats. He stated <br />that he thinks it is a good idea for the City to have alternatives and fall back plans. He stated that <br />he wants to make sure that it is communicated that the City is not interested in row after row of <br />townhomes in this area. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Olson stated that the City has received letters from two homeowners that <br />will be included in next week's Weekly Update. Those letters are also attached as Public <br />Record. Attachment A: Letter from Tom and Patti Kurak, 15001 Sunfish Lake Boulevard NW; <br />and Attachment B: Letter from Ben J. Deemer, 14501 Sunfish Lake Boulevard. <br /> <br />Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated that at the public meetings, initially, there was universal <br />support for no parking areas. He stated that there was a lot of discussion about the amenities <br />there such as bird watching. He noted that the area is already used for lunch breaks from the-area <br />businesses. He stated that they would like to start getting costs and he anticipates that they will <br />ask for Council action in the next few months. <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Commission Chair Johns stated that Mr. Schoenbauer captured the <br />recommendations of the Commission very well.
