He stated that the purpose is to inspect <br />those parks, view added structures and also has the Parks Commission available for <br />neighborhood interaction. He stated that generally the call on the weather is made the afternoon <br />of the meeting. He advised that if they wish to continue the. outdoor meetings, the first meeting <br />would be at the Sunfish Lake site. He explained that it would work well for the purposes of <br />reviewing the concept plans against the actual site. He stated that in July they could meet at <br />Emerald Pond Park, which would give the neighborhood access to the Commission and also give <br />them an opportunity to review the restroom project, approved by the Council this past winter. He <br />advised that they could also visit Elmcrest Park to discuss the playground and the proposed <br />building. He advised that they have invited the City Council to join the Commission in an <br />outside meeting for the past five to six years to discuss capital improvements. He stated that the <br />purpose of the case was to see if the Commission still wanted to continue with outside meetings <br />and then publish the sites so that the public is aware ofthe meetings. <br /> <br />Chairperson J ohus advised that she would like to continue with the outside meetings because of <br />the number of residents that do drop in and attend the meetings. She questioned which sites they <br />would like to use for the other two open meetings. <br /> <br />Commissioner Barr suggested Central Park and advised that it would be an optimal site because <br />of the opportunities with the church. <br /> <br />Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated that in bad weather they could also use one of the buildings <br />at Central Park and added that they could also view the warming house that was recently built <br />and is available for public rental. <br /> <br />Commissioner Shryock suggested Flintwood Terrace since they had not been there for quite a <br />while. She thought that it would be an opportunity to invite potential land d~velopers and for <br />residents involved in the Sunfish Lake site to view a similar site with a trail around the lake. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Hansen, seconded by Commissioner Barr to approve the 2008 outdoor <br />meeting schedule, as detailed above and to invite and schedule a joint City Council meeting for <br />June 2008. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Johns, Commissioners Hansen, Barr, Backous, <br />LaMere, and Shryock. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioner Erickson. <br /> <br />Case #7: <br /> <br />2008 Park and Trail Map Updates <br /> <br />Parks Supervisor Riverblood explained the purpose of this case is to continue the Park and Trail <br />Plan map updating. He reviewed that at the Commission's March 2008 meeting, Vice Chair <br />Melody Shryock reviewed her recommendations and additional 'mark ups' were provided to staff <br />by other Commission members. He explained that the trail map is made up of existing and <br />proposed trails and parks. He advised that early tonight they spoke about needing trails on both <br />sides of major roadways and explained that the map only shows the trails on the side that most <br />needs the trail. He explained that, typically, the side shown on the map would be constructed <br />first. He stated that the other relevant fact is that the City is in the process of an amendment to <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Commission/Aprill0, 2008 <br />Page 15 of 18 <br />
