the comprehensive plan and the park and trail map submitted by the Commission would be
adopted by reference. He stated that the park and trails map shows the concept for the trails so
that when a developer suggests a land use they understand what is desired in that area. He then
reviewed a few slides and reviewed plans for some proposed additions.

Commissioner Shryock thought that the map was really starting to look great. She stated that by
her participation in the Ramsey3 working group she is better able to understand that trails and
sidewalks contribute to both transportation safety and mobility. She stated that they are right on
track with what they are working on and also with putting placeholders on the map for future
development. She stated that in the Ramsey3 working group there has been discussion of trail
width and residents questioning what the standard width is for trails.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that the last few years there have been a few occasions
where there is an eight foot trail in a park but advised that ten feet is the standard width for trails
along county roads. He explained that this is to allow safe two way passing of pedestrians using
the trail and also for maintenance. He explained that plow damage occurs when the snow
equipment is the same size as the trail.

Commissioner Shryock encouraged staff to work on a usable map so that residents would know
that the Commission is working on a usable map for them to be able to get around the
community.

Motion by Commissioner Shryock, seconded by Commissioner Backous to authorize staff to
make the necessary changes to the Commission's park and trails map.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Johns, Commissioners Shryock, Backous, Barr,
Hansen, and LaMere. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioner Erickson.

COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT

~ Environmental Expo

Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that staff is excited that the Expo will take place at the
municipal center on April 19th. He stated that they will have two different watershed models, a
'tree house of horrors', presentations, vendors, the tree sale, and booths from the Parks
Commission as well as the Environmental Policy Board. He advised that the pre-order tree sale
was a great success.

~ Community Center Update

Parks Supervisor Riverblood.advised that both the Council and administration have this item on
their agenda on a daily basis and stated that there is nothing more to discuss at this time that was
not discussed earlier in the meeting.

~ Mav Agenda Items

Park and Recreation Commission/April 10, 2008
Page 16 of 18
