<br />Commissioner Cleveland asked' if the City is considering any signage that will announce the <br />Town Center and if so will the signage conflict with the location of this proposed sign. . <br /> <br />Associate Planner DaInes stated there has been some discussion about Ramsey Town Signage. <br />The City has talked a little bit about doing some signage on Sunwood Drive and Armstrong. <br />They are also doing "Welcome to the City of Ramsey" signage and are working with the County <br />on that. <br /> <br />Mr. Sailor stated they are willing to work with the City on any additional signage for the Town <br />Center. <br /> <br />Commissioner Van Scoy asked if the electronic display met their guidelines. <br /> <br />Associate Planner DaInes stated they do not distinguish between electronic displays and other <br />signage. She noted the Planning Commission could have staff bring work forward to them at a <br />future meeting consider guidelines for electronic displays if they so request. <br /> <br />Commissioner Van Scoy asked how large was the electronic display portion of the sign. <br /> <br />Associate Planner DaInes stated it was approximately seventy square feet. <br /> <br />Motion by Chairperson Nixt, seconded by Commissioner Van Scoy, to recommend that City <br />Council adopt Findings of Fact relating to Shad Tracy Signs' request for a conditional use permit <br />to exceed sign size and height restrictions established in City Code because of the grade change <br />in elevation along Highway 10 and should be placed in the Findings of Fact between number 18 <br />and 19. <br /> <br />Commissioner Van Scoy stated he was concerned about the electronic SIgn and without <br />regulations there will not be a requirement for the changes in the signage. <br /> <br />Mr. Sailor stated the purpose of the electronic display is to offer daily specials, time and <br />temperature along with working with the City for community events. He noted the sign is not <br />intended to flash; it is an electronic reader sign. <br /> <br />Commissioner Levine wondered if there were other municipalities that have regulations on how <br />often the electronic. sign can change. <br /> <br />Mr. Rick Ballantyne, Shad Tracy Signs, stated each City is different. <br /> <br />Associate Planner DaInes stated they do have a variety of electronic signs in the City right now. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Miller stated the other common way to regulate the sign is to <br />indicate the message cannot change for a set number of seconds. She stated this is fairly <br />common in other cities. The sign cannot be a distraction to motorists and cannot flash. <br /> <br />Planning Commission/May 1, 2008 <br />Page 4 of6 <br />
