happen, but there are businesses where detail in entering information is more critical than others.
She gave the example of the medical field and the importance of putting in correct information
for a prescription. She stated that she is concerned if the City would say that an average amount
of violations is okay.

Councilmember Jeffrey stated that the City has already spent a lot of money on this issue and
noted that there have been other violations besides the computer errors. He stated that one
example was the pawnshop being open on a holiday.

Mr. Bogart stated that also came from a computer error because Mr. Jerdin came in the day after
the holiday, but didn't restart the computer, so it showed that information he entered that day as
the holiday, but it was actually the day after.

Councilmember Dehen stated that he would not be opposed to a month long suspension with the
understanding that there are to be no further violations. He stated that he doesn't feel any more
breaks should be given to Mr. Jerdin and it is now incumbent on him to do everything he can to
stop the violations. He stated that the Council will not listen to any excuses next time so Mr.
Jerdin will need to do what he needs to, to run a legitimate business.

Councilmember Strommen stated that she has not yet been persuaded that a suspension is the
correct response because the discussion tonight has been all about what is a violation and what
isn't a violation. She reiterated that she does not want to be in the same place in 120 days and
asked where the City would draw the line.

Mr. Bogart stated that there are violations and then there are errors.

Mayor Gamec stated that he doesn't want to see anymore. He stated that Mr. Jerdin stated
tonight that the computer system is updated and running well, so, if that is the truth, there
shouldn't be any more violations. He stated that the inventory is Mr. Jerdin's responsibility.

. Councilmember Olson asked if input errors showed up as violations.

Mr. Bogart stated that they do and gave the example of entering "bhi" instead of "blue" which
showed up on the report. He stated that they have a certain number of hours to re-send the
record or it is considered a violation.

Councilmember Look asked when the new software would be fully implemented.

Mr. Jerdin stated that the system is working and he has paid for the new version, but it hasn't
arrived yet.

Councilmember Look stated that he thinks it has been made clear that the Council feels it is
incumbent on Mr. Jerdin and Mr. Bogart to get the new system up and running properly.

City Council / May 27, 2008
