City Council
was advised of the park planning that has occurred at their work session on April 22, 2008. At
that time, the consensus of Council was that the planning to date for the park was generally
heading in the right direction.

Jason Amberg reported that the concepts had been refined based on the updated topography he
had received. He advised that trail alignments had been tweaked and along the trail there would
be an overlook dock with a nice view of the water, a few interpretive stations similar to Alpine
Park, and seating areas and benches. He reported that they would continue to use. the existing
access location for the drive and then have two parking areas with space for eight to nine cars,
with the option of adding additional parking. He advised that there would be a shelter with nice
views of the lake, a pedestrian bridge, and a trail heading down to the water near the canoe
launch. He stated that there would also be a kiosk where residents could view maps of the trails
throughout the City. He advised that previously they had been thinking of a circular parking lot,
but given the terrain and trees they thought the new parking plan would be a better concept.

Commissioner Shryock questioned if they had the opportunity to check the distance from the
existing drive, and if they would be able to use that.

Mr. Amberg advised that they do have that question into the County.

Public Works Director Olson advised that the County would review the site distance and also the
traffic flow when making their decision. He advised that the County suggested they have access
through Sunwood Drive instead, but he explained that the landowners in that area were not on
board with that idea. He stated that they could start with this concept of parking and access and
look to Sunwood if there are accidents. He explained that in order to connect to Sunwood they

Park and Recreation Commission/May 8, 2008
Page 2 of 13
