He felt at this time there are not strong facts to suggest that <br />there would be a safety issue in keeping the entrance in the existing space. <br /> <br />Mr. Amberg stated that they are really hoping that the County allows them to keep the existing <br />entrance. He advised that if they do need to change the concept and use Sunwood as the access <br />point they would make that happen and tie it in with the existing plan. <br /> <br />Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that if they do hear no back from the County again, they <br />would then try for a right in/right out option for the entrance. <br /> <br />Commissioner Shryock questioned why they did not look at the northern park of the park for <br />parking and the entrance. <br /> <br />Mr. Amberg advised that it is because of the relation to the lake and that the concept model that <br />they have now allows easy access to the lake. <br /> <br />Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated that the public really wanted emphasis on the natural <br />resources and that the current parking model lessens the impact on the oak trees. <br /> <br />Mr. Amberg replied that they are really trying to minimize the overall footprint of development <br />for the site. <br /> <br />Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated that in the canoe area they could have a few canoes that are <br />City owned and could be rented, at no cost, through City Hall. <br /> <br />Mr. Amberg pointed out that there would be an adjacent deck space next to the shelter for <br />viewing the lake and that the dock would also be setup on a floating system because of the <br />fluctuation in the water level. <br /> <br />Commissioner LaMere questioned why the fishing pier was changed to the observation pier. <br /> <br />Mr. Amberg replied that the depth of the water was questionable, but advised that you could still <br />fish off of the observation dock. <br /> <br />Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that they could continue to explore the option of dredging <br />the lake, but advised that would be a multi-year plan. He advised that the focus at this point <br />should be focused on getting things in that are needed and wanted. He explained that if the <br />Commission liked the concept for the park, the next step would be to start costing out the <br />concept and come back to the joint Council and Commission meeting in June to get the <br />authorization for bids on the first phase of the park. He advised that there is currently $300,000, <br />earmarked from the park dedication fees, for this project. <br /> <br />Commissioner Barr questioned what the timeline would be for the County to respond to the <br />entrance point issue. <br /> <br />Park and Rkcreation Commission/May 8, 2008 <br />Page 3 of 13 <br />
