<br />Councilmember Dehen asked if someone, for instance, was stealing from the City and the <br />auditors didn't catch it, are there disclaimers that the City cannot hold the auditors liable for <br />missing this. <br /> <br />Mr. Nielsen stated that for the audit, they do not look at every transaction, but only a sampling. <br /> <br />Finance Officer Lund stated that as part of the audit, they interview people outside of the Finance <br />Department, such as City Administrator Ulrich and Councilmember Strommen, to see if they <br />have any areas of concern regarding finances. <br /> <br />Mr. Nielsen reviewed the information included in the packet and the upcoming accounting and <br />auditing updates. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen asked how much the audit services cost the City. <br /> <br />Finance Officer Lund noted that the audits are mandatory and cost about $27,000 a year. She <br />stated that she wanted to give a big thank you to Sandy Carlson from the Finance Department for <br />putting together a majority of the report information. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that over the years, the City has had excellent reports and thanked the <br />whole Finance Department for working together as a team to get this done. <br /> <br />Finance Officer Lund noted that Mr. Nielsen will also give a brief presentation at the Council <br />meeting. <br /> <br />2) 2009 General Fund Budget <br /> <br />City Administrator Ulrich stated that the information being handed out was a very preliminary, <br />rough budget and includes all requests from the departments. He stated that he will sit down <br />with each department, individually, to go over their requests line item, by line item, and then <br />bring a revised preliminary budget back to the Council. He stated that he wants to make it clear <br />that the budget, in its current form, is unacceptable to him. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec asked what will happen with the tax valuations. <br /> <br />Finance Officer Lund stated that the County is still working on its numbers, but has given a <br />tentative amount of 1%. <br /> <br />City Administrator Ulrich asked what the projected growth was for commercial and residential. <br /> <br />Finance Officer Lund stated that for 2007, it was 3.5% for commercial and 2.2% for residential, <br />. but there are no numbers for 2008 yet. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen stated that as staff looks through this budget, she would like there to <br />be consideration given to things like fuel efficient vehicles and landscaping regimes that require <br />less maintenance. <br /> <br />City Council Work Session I June 10,2008 <br />Page 2 of5 <br />
