Assist well owners with collecting well water samples to ensure that this is done <br />correctly, <br />6, ~e involved in coordinating local efforts to properly seal unused wells, <br />7, Assist well owners with obtaining funding for well sealing. <br />8. Review well records contained in the County Well Index and- county water plans to target <br />wells for reconstruction ar sealing. <br />9. Review water connection information to identify properties that are not served by t1~e <br />public water. supply system to identify wells which may need to be reconstructed or <br />sealed. <br />10. Review. building permits to identify homes or businesses that were supplied by a well <br />when they were hrst connected, to further identify unused wells. <br />11. Identify businesses or homes that existed before the water distribution system was <br />constructed or extended into that part of town to further identify wells. <br />12. Mail a survey to residents to determine the status of wells iri the WHP area. <br />13, Conduct adrive-through survey to identify wells in the WHP area. <br />14. Conduct aDouse-ta-house survey to identify wells in the WPIP area. <br />1S. Conduct compliance inspections, <br />1 ~, contact the. MDH when wells are found which are obvious health and safety hazards. <br />17. For inadequate well conditions that pose. less immediate hazards, pass along information <br />to the well owner can the risks of such conditions and passible solutions, <br />18. Monitor planning. and zoning activities relative to wells that may affect the WHP area, <br />19. Request notification of proposed land uses that may result in the installation ofwells in <br />the WHP area. ' <br />2Q. Work with local planning and Zoning commissions to address wells that do not meet the <br />construction standards specified in the State Well Code. <br />21. Evaluate the water quality testing results ofwells within the WHP area to identify <br />potential problems. <br />22. Use well owner surveys or request well sealing records on file at the MDH to monitor <br />behavior-changes within the WHP area to determine if best well management practices <br />for wells are being adopted. <br />23. Request that MDH inform you when.: permits are. granted for new wells or maintenance <br />of unused existing wells, existing wells are disclosed as a result of property transfer, ar <br />abandoned wells are sealed within the WHP area. <br />2~, Financially assist well owners to ensure that wells are properly sealed. <br />2S, Act as an infarmation,and referral resource to identify existing sources of fnao,cial <br />assistance such as grants, loans, and cost-share programs, <br />2fi. Seek funding for the community so it may provide financial assistance to well owners <br />through cost-sharing or loans. <br />27. Consider buying certain wells that are strategically located for groundwater. monitoring or <br />pose a threat of funneling contaminants to the aquifer used by the public water supply, <br />28. Pay for the sealing of certain wells and the connection to the public water supply system. <br />
