ground level to identify "Fountains of Ramsey" from Sunwood Drive and the parking lot; the
signs consist of channel levels that would not exceed 18" in height, and the wall space occupied
for each sign would be 30 square feet.

Assistant Community Development Director Frolik further explained the applicant is also
proposing a 24 square foot directory sign at the building entrance on Sunwood Drive. Town
Center regulations restrict directory signs to four square feet.

Citizen Input

Curt Martinson, PSC, LLC, appeared before the Planning Commission and stated their goal with
thesignage is to identify where the entrance is located for Fountains of Ramsey, particularly
given the fact that the parking lot is located on the north side of the building.

Commissioner Cleveland asked why the directory signage is proposed to be located on the front
of the building and not where the parking lot is located.

Mr. Martinson replied as people go up and down Sunwood Drive, this signage will identify the
tenants located in the building and will be situated next to the front door entrance.

Assistant Community Development Director Frolik stated she felt it was advantageous to have a
directory at the front door and did not feel it was the intent to have someone be able to see the
directory when driving by, but rather, the directory would be visible to someone walking into the
building.

Commissioner Hunt stated he felt the proposed signage was proportionate to the size of the
building. .

Commissioner Brauer stated this building is an asset to the Town. Center and expressed his
appreciation to Mr. Martinson for his efforts in working with City staff to comply with the Town
Center ordinances. He felt that given this building is so prominent, it might help with further
marketing of the Town Center. He added the City needs to remain cognizant of not just the
square footage of the signage, but also the aesthetics, and stated that staff has done a good job of
designing a sign that blends in and fits well with the building.

Motion by Commissioner Van Scoy, seconded by Commissioner Cleveland, to close the public
hearing.

Motion Carried. Voting Yes: Acting Chairperson Levine, Commissioners Van Scoy, Cleveland,
Brauer, Hunt, and Rogers. Voting No: None. Absent: Chairperson Nixt.

The public hearing closed at 8:09 p.m.

Commission Business

Planning Commission/September 4, 2008
