REVIFNV ACCIDENT HISTORY AND TRAFFIC VOLUMES <br />AT TH 47 & 142ND AVENUE <br />By; Steven Jankow*4 City Engineer <br />Background: <br />The City Council recently requested a review of the accident history and traffic volumes within <br />the area that includes the intersection of TH 47 and 142"1 Avenue and Argon Street to the west <br />of this .intersection, <br />It is staff understanding that the Council wishes to have the surrounding neighborhood invited <br />to take part in the discussion associated with this case, Depending,on the issues identified the <br />properties potentially affected could vary considerably, The impact from modifications to area <br />roadways could be limited to Argon Street and 142 Lane in the Flintwood Hills neighborhood, <br />Other modifications could .expand the affected areas to encompass this neighborhood, the <br />Rivers Bend neighborhood and businesses on both sides of TH 47, Staff therefore would like to <br />receive further direction from the Committee prior to soliciting neighborhood input which <br />oould be obtained at a future Public Works Committee meeting, <br />Traffic issues in this neighborhood have been discussed several tinges in recent years. These <br />discussions have been initiated §ubsequent to the following. area road modifications. <br />In 2000 TH 47 received a major upgrade between CR 116 4nd Alpine Drive, The <br />roadway was significantly widened and a signalized intersection and turn lanes were <br />installed at Nowthen Boulevard, <br />• In 2005 TH 47 received safety improvements which included the revision of the <br />intersection at 142nd Avenue to a three quarter intersect. Previously the intersection <br />accommodated all turning movernerim It was :modified to allow only left turns from TH <br />47 onto 142i4 Ave, but prevent the reverse left turns from 142"d Avenue onto TH 47, <br />• In 2006 CR 116 was widened and the intersection of CR 116 and Dysprosium was <br />signalized. An access from the Mallard Pond neighborhood (Barium Street) onto CR <br />116 was closed at that time, . <br />The purpose of this case is to review the accident history and traffic volumes, and identify <br />issues and future steps necessary to determine what changes, if any, should be considered. <br />Traffic Counts: <br />The traffic counts on major roadways within the arca since 2000 are Illustrated on. the attached <br />figure, 'Below are several observations; <br />-173— <br />
