I <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />i <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />4) Authorize Hiring of Temporary Public Works Lead Person <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Heryla explained that the Council authorized the establishment of a <br />temporary Public Works Lead Person through September 2000. An internal posting was done <br />and letters of interest were received from two candidates, with one candidate meeting the <br />requirement of being a full time Public Works employees in good standing for one full year. Ms. <br />Heryla stated the Personnel Committee met earlier tonight and recommended, based on <br />interviews, that John Nelson be hired for the Temporary Public Works Lead Person, subject to a <br />six-month probationary period. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Anderson and seconded by Councilmember Connolly to authorize <br />hiring John Nelson as Temporary Public Works Lead Person. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Anderson, Connolly, Hendriksen, <br />and Zimmerman. Voting No: None. Absent: None. <br /> <br />5) Dual Part-Time Public Safety Aids <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Heryla explained that Laurie Swadner has served as the Police <br />Department's paid, part time Public Safety Aid for nearly three years. Her primary objective has <br />been building a network of Neighborhood Watch groups throughout the City. The number of <br />active groups is 18, with four additional groups requesting initial start-up meetings. He advised <br />that Ms. Swadner has indicated her intention to return to college full-time beginning in June. <br />One of the volunteer Public Safety Aids, Chandra Kreyer, has assisted her from time to time, <br />attended the 40 hour certification class, and is certified to give presentations in the name of <br />Neighborhood Watch. He explained that Ms. Kreyer's current job at a local college will be done <br />in June for the summer months, which is the City's time period of greatest concern to assure the <br />Lions picnic and National Night Out events are adequately staffed. The Personnel Committee <br />recommended that the part-time, paid Public Safety Aid position be posted internally and filled <br />based on interest of current employees and Ms. Kreyer and that the total hours worked not <br />exceed 20 hours per week. It was noted that Ms. Swadner's current rate of pay is $12.79 per <br />hour (Step 2). Step one pay for that position would be $11.92. It is intended that the posting <br />occur in April, with the job share to begin in May 2000.
