e • CASE # <br />REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS <br />By: Public Works Staff <br />Background: <br />The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 and discussed the following <br />five cases: <br />CITIZEN INPUT <br />There was none. <br />APPROVE AGENDA <br />Motion to approve the agenda as submitted. <br />Case #1 Consider Request for Stop Sign at Fluorine Street and 146 Avenue <br />Background: <br />Staff received a petition September 10, 2008, signed by 16 property owners requesting that a <br />Stop sign be placed on the west leg of this three legged intersection in the vicinity of Fluorine <br />Street and 146 Avenue. Staff conducted a study on traffic volume, accident history and sight <br />distance and reported there are no accidents at the intersection and that a reportable accident is <br />personal injury or damage in excess of $1,000. The traffic count numbers at all three legs of the <br />intersection there were 650 units per day. It was found that the sight distances on the SE comer <br />are slightly impaired because of landscaping on the comer. Staff is recommending posting a stop <br />sign on the west leg of the intersection of Fluorine Street, but for different reasons than the <br />petition requested. There are a lot of children in the area that travel to and from the park and in <br />the interest of safety, staff is suggesting the neighborhood may want to petition the City for a <br />sidewalk on the east side of Fluorine Street, Staff is also suggesting that the basketball hoop on <br />Fluorine Street be moved to a more appropriate location. <br />Motion to recommend to the Council that a stop sign be posted on the west leg of the intersection <br />of Fluorine Street and 146 Avenue, and that staff work with the homeowner that has the <br />landscaping on the comer to see what can be done to minimize the impact to site lines. <br />Action: <br />Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee. <br />-75- <br />
