Background Funding Source Staff Recommendation PC CASE # AUTHORIZATION TO HIRE PAID ON -CALL FIREFIGHTERS By: Givonna Reed Kone, Human Resources Manager In an effort to bring the City to its full complement of firefighters for the Nowthen station, staff began a recruitment process to hire up to five additional paid on -call firefighters. A firefighter orientation was held in August 2008 and the physical agility tests and interviews were conducted in October. Candidates were interviewed by a panel consisting of the Fire Chief, both Assistant Fire Chiefs, a firefighter, and the Human Resources Technician. At this time staff is recommending that the following individuals be hired as paid -on -call firefighters: Chad Sacre, Isaac Schulz, Michael Suchy, Charles Swirtz, and Tyler Wiemann. All five individuals have successfully completed background checks and medical exams. These five paid on call positions were approved as part of the 2008 General Fund Budget. Per the Joint Powers Agreement with Nowthen, the City of Ramsey will be reimbursed for a portion of the salaries for these five positions. Staff is recommending that the Personnel Committee make a motion recommending that the City Council hire the following individuals as paid -on -call firefighters: Chad Sacre, Isaac Schulz, Michael Suchy, Charles Swirtz, and Tyler Wiemann. These individuals would be hired at an hourly wage of $12.50 and would begin employment on December 10, 2008.
