Given the development in Ramsey of Urban (higher density) and Rural (lower <br />density), Ramsey must pursue a variety of strategies pertaining to Transit. These <br />strategies include: <br />• Continue to provide Dial -a -Ride service in Ramsey through the Anoka County <br />Traveler. <br />• Encourage park and pooling and ridesharing for residents of Ramsey as well as <br />adjacent communities. <br />• Focus on suburb to suburb commuting as well as commuting to e c <br />downtown areas. <br />Consider development of a multi -modal transit hub as part of.e Noi <br />Corridor study area. <br />ff <br />2008 Comprehensive Plan <br />3. Recommended Plan _ <br />It is anticipated that Ramsey will continue =to remaoute of the Metropolitan <br />Council's transit taxing district, so MTransit wffl not provide public transit <br />service to Ramsey. However, the City of Ra ey shc still encourage transit as a <br />means to ease congestion and improve air quaf desired, the City of Ramsey <br />could purchase Metro Transit serviravvithout ente ng the taxing district. <br />The Metropolitan Region has estlish' new direction for regional public transit <br />that includes the following two octivis as identified in the Metropolitan Council <br />Transportation Policy Plano { <br />• Develop a regiot&--- dedicated transitways to provide a travel -time <br />advanta* for - hicles improve transit service reliability and increase <br />accessibility job viJransit; and <br />• Match thcmostpropriate transit services to different transit market areas. <br />_ a <br />A ` icated ansit way" means that within the corridor, transit vehicles have a <br />dfdited= lane that separates them from main line traffic, similar to the High <br />upanIy Vehicle lane on I -394 between Highway 100 and downtown Minneapolis. <br />- a = Th =fit y of Ramsey has one potential corridor, US Highway 10 that has the <br />= to become a dedicated transitway although this would likely not occur <br />until beyond the year 2010 when the feasibility of commuter rail and alternative <br />7 bridge crossings have been adequately studied and addressed. The Highway 10 <br />corridor is currently experiencing a wealth of economic development and is becoming <br />a congested corridor.
