CASE # <br />REPORT FROM PUBLIC. WORKS <br />By: Public Works Staff <br />Background: <br />The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 and discussed the following <br />three cases: <br />CITIZEN INPUT <br />There was none. <br />APPROVE AGENDA <br />Motion to approve the agenda as submitted. <br />Case #1 Consider Parking Restrictions on St. Francis Boulevard Frontage Road <br />Background: <br />Staff stated that the City received a letter from one of .the six property owners on the frontage <br />road that runs along St. Francis Boulevard. The letter stated that, at times, when there was <br />parking on both sides, it becomes very narrow and becomes difficult for a vehicle to pass. Staff <br />checked the road and found it was -only 20 feet wide, which is .very narrow and they have <br />concerns with the ability to get emergency vehicles in, as well as regular traffic to squeeze <br />through. The police department has indicated that they have not seen a lot of problems, <br />however, if there were a fire, it could be fought from TH 47, but it would not be desirable. All 6 <br />of the property owners were contacted about this meeting and staff .received a phone call from <br />one of the residents who said, essentially, that they would like to see the situation remain as it is. <br />Staff is recommending restricting the parking on one side, but have a discussion with property <br />owners first. <br />Motion to recommend to the City Council that parking be restricted to the west side. of the street <br />on the St. Francis Boulevard frontage road. <br />Action: <br />Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee. <br />Case #2 Consider Modifications at TH 47 and 142"d Avenue <br />Background: <br />There has been concern from residents in Flintwood neighborhood that there has been a great <br />deal of cut through traffic in their neighborhood and the City has also noted a fairly significant <br />accident history at the corner of 142"d. One of the reasons that Mallard Ponds has the closed gate <br />was to prevent similar traffic cut throughs, however, once 142"d was closed, it wouldn't provide <br />much of a benefit because there wouldn't be a connection to TH 47. Staff went back to a public <br />safety concern that they have had for a long time, that relying on one access point on 140' <br />-137- <br />
