Motion by Commissioner Shryock, seconded by Commissioner Erickson to recommend that the
City Council approve up to $7,000, from the Lawful Gambling Fund, for the creation of an off-
leash area for dog owners at Alpine Park.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Johns, Commissioners Erickson, Backous, Barr,
Hansen, and Shryock. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioner LaMere.

Case #2:

Sunfish Lake Park - Approve Partial Schematic Plans

ParkslUtilities Supervisor Riverblood advised that the Sunfish Lake Park project has been
underway for some time. He advised that the purpose of the meeting tonight was to review five
of the partial schematic plans for the park and that the project would be discussed more in detail
during the December meeting. He stated that in relation to the canoe rack it would hold five
locked canoes and a few small lockers. He explained that the canoes would be locked into the
rack with realtor type locks to allow residents to use the equipment. He advised that Sunfish
. Lake Park is located in the south east area of the City. He eXplained that throughout the process
there have been many options for the public to give input and help craft the overall plan for the
park. He displayed a map of amenities and the location of trails. He advised that the parking
would come off of Sunwood Drive and connect to the park by trails. He explained that the trails
would connect to Fox Knoll. He displayed a sketch of the proposed entrance sign for the park,
which included cedar timbers banded together with black painted steel. He advised that the City
logo and name of the park would also be displayed on the sign.

Chairperson Johns questioned if the sign name would be hanging from chains.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that the sign would hang by banded steel. He advised that a
steel T would be installed inside of the timbers to allow for additional support. He then
displayed a sketch of the kiosk that would contain three panels with a lock enclosure. He thought
that the park plan, with a "you are here" type map, could be contained within the kiosk. He
advised that also being considered for the kiosk would be a public advertising display, where a
babysitter could advertise his or her services. He displayed a sketch of the double roof shelter
and explained that it would keep in line with the other features with the use of the timbers as
columns and steel roofing. He explained that the steel roofing should last the lifetime of the
shelter and not be affected by the weather.

Commissioner Shryock questioned if a square shelter should not be used rather than a hexagonal
shelter, as it stated in the packet that the change in shape would save funds. She also questioned
the use of the green color.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood explained that those options would be open for discussion. He
advised that they would be suggested black as a color for the steel and explained that black is the
easiest color to paint over should vandalism occur. He advised that the color of the roof would
be open for discussion. He advised that he liked the hexagonal look and thought it fit well within
the City but explained that he could price out the bids both ways. He advised that he also had
another idea for the interior of the shelter that would work best with the hexagonal shape.
