City Engineer Jankowski replied that was the result of a speed study after the placement of the
chevrons. He has copied the Police Department and has not been informed of any accidents
since the po stings of the chevrons.

Jim Gronlund, 5866 169th Avenue, stated the chevrons initially made an impact, but after a few
weeks the driving returned to normal. He stated there was a fire in their neighborhood a couple
of weeks ago and he is surprised there was not a head-on collision.

Councilmember Olson inquired about Mr. Gronlund's statement that people are constantly
driving off the road.

Mr. Gronlund replied if people drive down the inside of the road the other driver has to drive off
the road.

Chairperson Elvig questioned if there should be consideration of making changes to this comer.

Public Works Director Kapler indicated there was discussion of making the comer more gradual,
but the fear was that would actually increase speed by making the road capable of a higher speed.

Chairperson Elvig noted the action before the Committee at this time is the chevron, but all of
the property owners involved are not present.

Councilmember Olson asked if Mr. Gronlund thinks the chevrons are effective for people that are
not familiar with the neighborhood.

Mr. Gronlund replied they could be, but most people that drive into the neighborhood are looking
for 168th Avenue, which does not exist, and they turn around in his driveway to go back out.

Councilmember Olson indicated the people that are used to the street and conditions will
continue to drive the same way, but the chevrons may be effective for the people that are not
familiar with the conditions.

Assistant Public Works Director Olson advised the area has now been signed, and there is an
expectation that it is signed appropriately. He questioned if the City will be exposed if the
chevrons are removed and there is an accident.

Chairperson Elvig suggested any action on this item be tabled until the next Public Works
meeting when the other property owners can be present.

Case #3:

Sidewalk Repairs in the Ponds Subdivision

City Engineer Jankowski indicated at the April 19, 2005 Public Works Committee meeting staff
presented the Committee with a recommendation to repair a number of broken and substandard
driveway sidewalk pieces located in The Ponds subdivision.
