Environmental Coordinator Anderson explained that they would not need to use the heat or air
conditioning for that one day and advised that it would function as a polling place for the
election taking place tomorrow.
Board Member Bentz questioned why the price of an irrigation permit inspection is so high.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that it covers the cost of the employee from the
City to come out to the property and conduct the inspection.
Board Member Bentz questioned if there was an on -site plumber, as is the case with new
development, would the fee still be necessary.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that the fee would still be applicable, as an
inspection would still need to be done. He advised that an irrigation permit fee would be similar
to a roofing, or siding inspection, and is done by a building inspector rather than a plumber. He
advised that you would not need to be a licensed plumber to install irrigation, but would need a
general contractors license.
Board Member Bentz questioned if the City maintained a list of complaints for contractors. He
advised that some of his neighbors have had the same contractor out three times to correct hail
damage.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that a log probably is being kept, but was unsure if
that would be public record. He thought that the Better Business Bureau would be a wiser
option.
Board Member Bentz was not able to attend the joint EPB and Park and Recreation Commission
meeting and thought, that from the notes, the meeting looked interesting.
Board Member Max stated that it was an interesting meeting and that he had enjoyed it. He
stated that he had attended the previous Parks meeting as well, where they had discussed some
bird boxes, and thought it was nice to hear some of the issues discussed from the previous
meeting. He thought it was interesting to hear how that Commission works with real budgets,
real parks, and thought it was nice to get to know the Commission a little better. He felt that
there was common ground between the Boards even though they dealt with different matters.
Board Member Freeburg was impressed by the amount of the budget belonging to the Parks and
Recreation Commission.
Board Member Max stated that in looking at the budget it may seem like a lot of money, but
explained that the Commission also has a lot of real estate to manage.
Board Member Bentz questioned if the meeting had been held in a park.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson confirmed that the meeting had been held in a park and
explained that during the summer months the Parks and Recreation Board holds their monthly
meetings at different parks throughout the City.
Environmental Policy Board / November 3, 2008
Page 2 of 3
