".

REC'O DEe 01 2008

Dear City Hall,

My name is Amy Edgerton and I am 14 years old. I leave near the edge of Ramsey near Burns
Township, on a small dirt rOf:ld off of County Road 5, I am writing to you bec<luse I feel that there' are not
enou$h street lights around where I live. I think it would make driving at night a whole lot easier If you
put in more street I~mps.

I've often noticed that while driving home at night, It is difficult to see while driving on the
northern part of Nowthen Blvd. The only street lights near my house and around that area are lamps on
corners, which are oftenfar apart. This makes it harder for people to see while driving, therefore
increasing the chances of accidents.0ft:enthese ac:cldents'.are'l!'lotcar c:oUisions, but when cats hit'
nocturnal animals like young dear or raccoons. Because of this, especially in this time of year, I see many
young dears, raccoons, squirrels and other animals left dead on the road. A few years ago, while my
mom and sister were driving home, they hit a dear which rolled down the side of the car. This accident
dented the car, leftfurbet'Neen the doors, and ripped off one of the side view mirrors. No one was hurt,
fortunately, but we believe the dear did not make it. Ifthere were more street lights, accidents like
these would be less likely because people would be able to see the road further ahead.

Another reason it would be a good idea to put in more stree't Hshts is that people wO\Jld be less
likely to have their high beam lights on while driving, which damagelS the other drivers eyes. While it is
okay to have them on In areas where there are hardly any oncoming cats, a busy road like Nowthen is
not a good place. High beam lights are very affective when there Is not much light on the road, but it
damages the other drivers eyes. If there were more street Ilghts, people wQuldn't need to use their high
beam lights as much on this road, there for~making ita safer place for all drivers,

Last, more street lamps would help because it would be easier for people to see the road signs
at night. If you aren't able to read what the speed limit Is, or that there is a sharp turn up ahead, then
you won't know. If the road were lit up more, then we could make sure that all street lamps were read
clearly by drivers coming from both directions.

I hope that you will consider all these reasons, and hopefully you will decide that it would bea
o gcod thing for the city to' put'ln'more street light near my house.'lf this were to happen, J do believe that
there would be fewer accidents involving animals, that people would not use their high beams as much,
and so that people would be able to see the street signs more clearly. Allin all, the road would just be a
safer place for drivers younS and old.

Sincerely,

Amy Edgerton

3
