CASE # 2

D.A.R.E. REQUEST FOR PAYMENT
1990-1991 RAMSEY 5TH GRADE STUDENTS PARTICIPATION
By: Sandra Ashley Helling, Acting City Administrator

Background:

During the 1991 budget workshop sessions, our Police Chief presented a
request for reimbursement to the City of Anoka Police Department for Ramsey
5th grade students participating in the Drug Awareness Resistance Education or
D.A.R.E. program in 1990-1991. Although our City has not made a contribution
in the past, it was agreed by the Budget Committee and City Staff that this
program is a worthwhile effort that will benefit our youth. For this reason,
funding in the 1991 budget was recommended and subsequently adopted by City
Council.

The requested contribution is for the cost of materials only at $11.45/student.
The Anoka Police Department has been advised by the Anoka School District
that there are 225 eligible Ramsey students in Anoka schools. Therefore, the
total contribution requested is Two Thousand Five Hundred Seventy-Six and
only 25/100 Dollars ($2,576.25)

The adopted 1991 budget includes funding for D.A.R.E. under the Council Sub-
function (#1111) in the amount of $2,576.00.

Recommendation:

It is recommended that the City of Ramsey contribute to the D.A.R.E. program
for the 1990-1991 school year in the amount of $2,576.25

Committee Action:

Motion to recommend/not recommend the City's contribution to D.A.R.E. in the
amount of $2,576.25 for the 1990-1991 school year.

Review Checklist:

Acting City Administrator
Police Chief

BC: 03/22/91
