CASE # 3 <br /> <br /> Funding for Civil Defense Sirens Maintenance <br />By: Sandra Ashley Helling, Acting City Administrator <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />At the regular meeting of March 13, 1991, the City Council approved the <br />expenditure of funds for maintenance service on our sirens. Although this <br />service was not requested nor funded in the 1991 adopted budget, the service <br />was determined to be essential. For this reason, the expenditure of Four <br />Thousand Three Hundred Ninety-Six and No/100 Dollars ($4,396.00) was <br />approved. <br /> <br />In addition to this approval, the City Council asked the Finance Officer to <br />advise where these funds might be allocated from. <br /> <br />Observations: <br /> <br />A memo regarding a savings in telephone costs due to the cancellation of phone <br />lines previously dedicated to modems or other communication forms was <br />included in the consent agenda of the March 13 meeting. This savings was <br />identified for 1991 at $3,200 and as this was a funded expenditure, these <br />dollars could be allocated to maintenance of the Civil Defense system. <br /> <br />Also, while in the final steps of balancing the budget, $2,686 was added to the <br />expenditure reserve for contingency. The $1,196 additional required for siren <br />maintenance could be allocated from this account. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Depends on discussion. <br /> <br />Committee Action: <br /> <br />Motion to direct the Finance Officer to prepare a budget amendment reflecting <br />the Budget Committee's recommendation for presentation to the City Council at <br />the meeting of April 9, 1991. <br /> <br />Review Checklist: <br /> <br />Acting City Administrator <br />Police Chief <br /> <br />BC: 03/22/91 <br /> <br /> <br />
