~.

.)

Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he would check with Parks Supervisor
Riverblood regarding his availability, but thought if he was not available he could send some
information in his place. He advised that he is coordinating two workshops with the Anoka
Conservation District, the second focusing on rain gardens. He advised that the first portion of
the rain garden workshop would be held indoors, and the second portion would be outside so that
participants could get some hands on learning experience.

Board Member Max clarified that he was just pointing out that these projects are upcoming and
would be a great opportunity for the Board to conduct an educational event. He thought it would
be a great opportunity for the Board to develop an educational aspect of an ongoing project, and
would require little or no additional funding.

Chairperson McDilda thought that the Board should gain more information regarding this project
and the possibility to develop an educational aspect.

Board Member Max advised that the Master Naturalists would have a booth at the Expo. He
stated that one of the members has a great presentation that she does for fifth and sixth graders,
and hoped that she would be present at the Expo. He had talked with someone who works with
energy efficient landscaping, and that person is available to hold a half an hour presentation. He
questioned if Chairperson McDilda had worked on the poster contest.

Chairperson McDilda advised that he had not yet begun the work for that but stated that he
would handle the poster contest with Ramsey Elementary, and would get working on that item.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he was hesitant to line up a lot of presentations,
as they were not highly attended the previous year. He stated that with the Conservation District
already conducting the joint workshops regarding rain gardens and water smart landscaping in
the spring, he was unsure whether they would be able to offer another presentation at the Expo.
He advised that he would contact Prairie Restorations in regard to offering a presentation at the
event, similar to the prior year. He advised that this year they would be holding a joint
Environmental Expo and Business Expo, with the business portion being held at PACT Charter
School. He advised that the Business Expo is for Ramsey businesses to promote their business
and interact with the community. He explained that this item would then be marketed and
advertised together. He advised that they had already began advertising for the event and
explained that with this being a joint event the budget for advertising has been increased. He
advised that a direct mail would be sent out to every home in the City, along with the other
advertising methods. He stated that at the Expo they would attempt to do something related to
having residents get a card stamped by each vendor they visit, in return for a door prize when
they turn it in. He advised that Connexus Energy had committed to having a booth at the event,
as has Ace Solid Waste.

Board Member Max thought that presentations should be repeated so that residents that do attend
are getting the most out of the time that they are present.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson was concerned with possibly offending the presenters, if
an audience is not present for the sessions, similar to the prior year.

Environmental Policy Board / February 2, 2009
Page 5 of8
