2009 Bike Helmet Fitting Clinics Bike related crashes kill 900 people every year and send about 567,000 people to hospital emergency rooms with injuries. Wearing a bike helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by 85%. Safe Kids Anoka County wants to make sure your family has bike helmets. During the months of April and May, we will be traveling around the county distributing and properly fitting bike helmets. The cost of a stylish new Bell(l~) helmet is $10 - and we are happy to fit helmets you already own. Appointments are NOT needed. It's time to stmi thinking about summer fun and making plmls for your kids! The Ramsey Kid's Safety Camp is a great place to stmi the summer out safely. The 8th mUlUal Rmllsey Kids Safety Camp will be on June 23- 24,2009. Camp is limited to 144 children and will be filled on a first come basis. Priority registration is given to Ramsey residents and first time attendees. A registration fee of $30 includes activities, supplies, snacks, lunches, bike helmet, t-shili, mld awards ceremony. Limited scholarships are available. Registra- tion materials will be available April 1 at www.ci.ramsey.mn.us/commu- nity _ events.asp. Recreational Burning Regulations Recreational fires are to be used for recreation, cooking or ceremonial purposes. Recreational burning is not to be used for disposal. Recreational fires must consist of clean dry wood, producing little de- tectable smoke. odor or soot beyond the propeliy line: conducted with ml adult tending the fire at all times. Re- spect weather conditions, neighbors, burning bmls and air quality so that nuisance. health or safety hazards are not created. The Ramsey Fire Depmiment suggests a 50 foot minimum distance between the fire site mld mlY stl11cture or vehicle. Ifunable to obtain this distance, in no circumstance shall a fire be closer thml 25 feet to any structure or vehicle. Burning times are Monday through Friday from 6:00 pm to 6:00 mll. Saturday. Sunday mld national holidays from 12:00 noon to 6:00 am. A recreational fire site is an area of no more than a 3 foot dimlleter measured from the inside of a fire ring or non-combustible border. Burning barrels are prohibited. Disposal of larger quantities of bl11sh, trees, etc. requires ml Open Burning Permit available through the Fire Depmiment. A $25.00 fee is charged for the permit. Any person conducting ml open burn without the necessary permit shall be required to extinguish said fire mld may be cited mld prosecuted under Rmllsey City Ordinance #92-03 (a misdemeanor) mld may be charged the cost of fire suppression services from the city of Ramsey Fire Depmiment at the rate of $300 per hour plus mlY other costs incurred by the city.
