5)
6)

City Council workshop minutes dated January 12, 1991.
City Council regular meeting minutes dated January 22, 1991.

COMMISSION BUSINESS

Case #1: 1991 Business Exposition.

Commissioner Nelson reported that the Ramsey Lions Club would be participating by providing a
concession stand.

Commissioner Fults wanted to know if it would be feasible to schedule the Business Appreciation
Day & golf outing for the same weekend as the Business Exposition. Through the course of
discussion, it was determined that weather conditions sometime in August would most likely be
more cooperative for the golf outing held in conjunction with Business Appreciation Day.

Commissioner Fults suggested that a businessperson of the year could be named at the Business
Exposition and a plaque awarded.

Mr. Gromberg stated that the City itself should not name a person, although a business association
could initiate such au action.

Commissioner Greenberg added that the Chamber of Commerce would also be able to name a
businessperson of the year.

Commissioner Nelson asked if there was a master list somewhere of businesses and
correspondence regarding past Business Expositions and Business Appreciation Days. Some
businesses were missed at the last Business Appreciation Day.

Commissioner Greenberg wanted to know if the Economic Development Commission would
handle the funding. The Commission discussed various alternatives. The Economic Development
Company has provided for the funding of the Business Exposition in past years.

Commissioner Fults said that he feels the By-Laws of the Economic Development Company
should be changed in order to again make it a viable entity. Economic Development Company
member Stephen DeLuca has a list of share holders and other information that would be very
helpful in making this event successful.

Commissioner Greenberg commented that share holder attendance is poor at the meetings of the
Economic Development Company, which makes it nearly impossible to elect board members.

omm~ss~one.~ote~ that scheduling the Business Exposition in the fall will help us to give
everyone who would like to participate an oppo~unity to do so.

Mr. Gromberg mentioned that a business association could coordinate this event as a channel for
funding is a ~ tool.

Commissioner Greenberg agreed to locate the Economic Development Company records and
update them for use by the Economic Development Com~ssion and then to repo~ his findings m
the Economic Development Commission in M~ch.

Case #2: Sign Ordinance Review.

Mr. Gromberg distributed copies of a draft sign ordinance for the Commission to review and work
fi'om as well as being able to compare it to the present sign ordinance enclosed in the agenda
packet.
